Making Money Blogging? Or Struggling Like Most?

It’s hard to be making money blogging when you suck at it. It’s not the dream that most blogger have when they start out… it’s just the reality.

Most bloggers dream of thousands of visitors to their blog and thousands of followers, many of whom will buy something so that you make money. You might be promoting affiliate offers or your own products or services, but most struggle to really make any money.

Since I have joined the Empower Network, I’m learning more and more why I have sucked at making money blogging. So, I thought I’d share some insights because you might suck at it too. When you know why something is not working, you can start taking steps to fix it.

Blogs that make money are really only focused on consistently (i.e., every day) doing one of two things. That’s right you can successfully make money from blogging by focusing nearly all of your blog energy on just TWO things.

The key is… and this is a BIGGY… that you need to do at least one of these things, and more appropriately both of them, EVERY day. That’s the real secret to success, and where most people fail miserably (yes, including yours truly).

The secret is not in endlessly searching for the next great lazy shortcut… Ooops, I mean marketing tip. The secret isn’t going to be in guru’s facebook secrets or twitter secrets or any other social media secrets course out there.

The secret is always in taking regular and consistent action. Get off your lazy butt and do something useful every day…. day after day after day… so that your blog and money making business is constantly improving.

Think about this for a second. How many mega successful businesses can you think of that are wasting time looking for shortcuts and quick fixes instead of constantly innovating and improving? Certainly not any that last.

That’s what you need to be committed to do with your blogging efforts. If you keep taking action every day your efforts will naturally improve. And, as your efforts improve, so will your business results.

I’m not saying that learning is not important, because it is. I’m a lifelong student and believe there is always room to improve the things I’m pursuing in my life.

But, you can’t spend all of your time trying to learn the game (or waste it looking for better shortcuts). You just gotta get in the game and trust that you’ll keep learning and improving as you go.

There is a famous axiom in business that many people say they believe in, but way too few practice… Be willing to fail your way to success.

Start Making Money Blogging!

So, here is your ‘To Do’ List. Decide to make a commitment and then take action on at least one of these every day…

1. Write and add an article to your blog.
2. Market and promote your blog post to get traffic and backlinks.

That’s all there is… Focus on these TWO things. Keep doing these two things day after day after day.

I know what you’re thinking…

‘Thanks for the way obvious advice dude! Doesn’t help much…’

I’m sure you think there is way more to actually making money blogging than this, but this really where bloggers fail time after time. You already know most of what you need to know to be a successful blogger; you just need to take more action consistently.

OK, let me see if I can add a little more meat to the bones of that advice. Here is a new modified ‘To Do’ List:

1. Add a unique, useful, keyword-rich article to your blog. Always keep in mind that what makes for good content is the stuff that people are interested in that is informative and entertaining.
2. Share your post, syndicate it through social networks, and get at least one link from an ‘on topic’ site, preferably with related keywords in the link.

OK, I can still hear you asking, ‘What about keyword research, site design, facebook integration, etc.?’

Of course those things are important, but so many bloggers waste so much time thinking about them that they lose sight of the TWO most important things…

Writing articles, marketing the post, writing articles, marketing the post.
